Heading to Haven 2014

Swag-Bags

Right now, these 2 rookies are on our way down south..to ATLANTA!

We’re on our way to a home decor and DIY conference called Haven. It’s a 2-day conference where bloggers come from all over the country to get together and learn about blogging, DIY, and trends in the home genre. We’re guessing a blog conference doesn’t sound like much fun to you. But to us….it’s pretty darn magical! We actually went to Haven last August and had a wonderful time (more on last year’s trip right here.) Not only did we get to mingle with some fellow bloggers, but we learned how to be better bloggers here at DIY Playbook. Much of what we learned last year, we’ve put into practice here on the ol’ blog. The knowledge we gained from those couple days really helped us take DIY Playbook to the next level. When we found out that the conference would be back again this summer….we immediately signed up!

This year we’re lucky enough to have our trip sponsored by the wonderful folks at HireAHelper. HireAHelper is a company that helps you compare and book moving labor so you, the valued customer, gets the best bang for your buck… something we take extra serious here on the DIY Playbook. Casey used this company when she moved back to Chicago, and we have been huge fans ever since! We specifically love their emphasis on the “Hybrid Move”… a type of move that falls somewhere in between having a moving service do EVERYTHING and having a moving service do NOTHING. You, the customer, get to pick exactly how much professional help you need throughout your move so that you aren’t wasting money on services that you can do yourself throughout the process. They cater to the individual customer and make the process as user-friendly and hassle free as possible- two components that are extremely important on such an important day!

We heart this company so much that we’ve even joined their team as weekly contributors over on the HireAHelper blog. We’ve had a blast writing about everything and anything that comes along with the moving process. Like…When’s the Best Time to Move?, How to Stage your Home to Sell, and even some more DIY based posts like 7 Lucky Tips to Garage Sale Shopping. The team at HireAHelper is amazing, and they see the value in what we do here on DIY Playbook. As you can tell…we’re pretty big fans of them, and we feel very lucky to represent them at the conference!

So enough chatter…it’s time for our mini vacay! Be sure to check out our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts to follow along on our Haven journey.

PS. Even though we’re out of town, we still have some fun planned here on Playbook for tomorrow. Tune in to see the beginning stages of a secret mission Casey & I recently tackled… a patio makeover for some very special people.

Haven Conference 2013 Recap

Remember last week when we told you how we were jetsetting off to Atlanta for a ridiculously fun and jampacked weekend at the Haven Conference?!
Well, today we’re going to spill the beans on this amazing DIY conference.  Get ready for some ridiculous/cringe-worthy pics of Casey & Bridget…
Haven Conference 2013
First a little background info. Haven is an annual conference for DIY and home decor bloggers to get together to drink wine network and learn more about blogging.  This was our first time to Haven and our first blog conference ever (hence the name “rookies”) so we didn’t exactly know what to expect. We hoped to meet some of our favorite bloggers and learn all about making DIY Playbook the best it can be.
Disclaimer: We didn’t lug our cameras down south, so the pictures are ones we took on our phones. Don’t judge us… some we even took secretly all to report back to our all star readers.
Let’s just say this conference surpassed all of our expectations right from the start!
At the airport with Christina from Homemade Ocean
We had the privilege to room with a fantastic blogger (Christina from the blog Homemade Ocean) Go check out her blog…she is awesome!
Haven Conference Swag Bags
The sponsors of the Haven Conference hooked each blogger up with these swag bags. It was like Christmas morning- screaming, digging, smiling ear-to-ear, giggling like little girls that just opened their first American Girl Doll… OMG!!!
Ballard Designs Living Room
The conference rooms were also dripping in amazingness. Would you expect the conference room at a home decor conference to look any different? Props to Ballard Designs and the rest of the sponsor squad for making our space homey for the weekend.
So when we finally got cozy it was officially time to kick off the weekend. How do you kick off an event like this? Well, with an inspiring speech from none other than the amazingly talented, the amazingly beautiful… Ana White!!
We adore her! If you haven’t checked out her big league blog about building, you must go check it out…
Haven Dance Party

Throughout the weekend we learned (and practiced) the DIY shuffle, but we’ll spare you the details because that could take all day. Rest assured it’s everything you think it is and so much more. #hilarious (bloggers know how to get down!)

We also had the privilege to attend super informative and inspiring classes over the two days, like this one put on by Jen from IHeartOrganizing. Do you recognize the two bloggers sitting up front? More on them later. (Sorry about the secret paparazzi… awkwardddd).
Bridget and Casey with RYOBI tools
We met some hilarious and innovative sponsors, like RYOBI. Speaking of RYOBI Power Tools, these rock star sponsors hosted a five star cocktail party for all of us bloggers- complete with an open bar, several carving stations, dancing, tools, and even more… free swag!
Casey and Bridget with Katie and Sherry
And the grand slam of the trip? Uhhhh…Eating lunch with the hall of fame bloggers behind Young House Love & Bower Power, Sherry Petersik and Katie Bower. No.Big.Deal. NOOTTT!!! HUGE DEAL!!! These ladies were everything we thought they were (from creepin’ on their blog every day for the past three years) and way, way, way more! Down to earth. Hilarious. Just plain awesome.
Casey and Bridget in Porch Photo Booth
There were also plenty of Casey & Bridget shenanigans going on…
Cue the weird photos…
Casey and Bridget in Moen Shower

Bridget drinking coffee

Overall, the trip was such a success! Although we had an amazing time, we were excited to get home and to be honest… GET TO WORK! We are rejuvenated and inspired to get going on making DIY Playbook the best that it can be and far, far, far more!

Hello Haven!

Our bags are packed and we are ready to go!

These two rookies are heading down south to the great city of Atlanta. We’ll be there all weekend with some of the most talented bloggers in the country for the annual Haven Conference.

Haven is a blogging conference specifically for blogs like ours. Blogs that focus on DIY, crafts, and home decor. We’ve been counting down the days until Haven, and we are finally heading there to soak in everything we can to make DIY Playbook the best it can be! We’ll learn some new blogging skills, work on some do-it-yourself projects, and we will most definitely be partying it up with all of our new blog friends!

We’re also going to be gawking at some of our “celeb” blog crushes.  Hall of Fame bloggers like John & Sherry from Young House Love, and Katie Bower from Bower Power. Yep, we’ll be big nerdbombers asking for pictures and squealing with excitement.

Sorry if we are MIA over the next few days, but know we will be back and ready for some fun next week- including some serious scoop from our Atlanta adventures. (Also, be sure to check out our “guest post” for tomorrow!)

If you want to see a little “behind the scenes” action from our time at Haven, follow us on Instagram @diyplaybook. We’ll be taking pics galore…
