Patio Inspiration

(Disclaimer: We have partnered with Home Decorators Collection to bring you this post. However, all opinions expressed are our own and are not influenced by Home Decorators Collection.)
This just in: Bridget’s getting a new patio and brand new landscaping!
It’s no secret around here that since we bought our house last November, the curb appeal has been less than desirable. Thankfully, that’s about to change. We are knee deep in a landscaping makeover, complete with a brand new patio (my favorite part of course).
Along with any patio comes a whole lot of decorating potential, which makes this dirty landscaping project a lot more tolerable. Today, I’m teaming up with the fabulous Home Decorators Collection to share my vision of my someday-soon, new outdoor living space. Here’s what I’m thinking:

Patio Inspiration from HDC

Source List Here

1. Home Decorators Collection (HDC) has teamed up with Martha Stewart Living to create patio furniture to die for. This color combo is the inspiration behind my whole patio remodel, but it also comes in a variety of other colors, like the amazing one Casey’s mom used to makeover her patio. I’m head-over-heels in love with the whole line.
2. HDC also hit a grand slam with this outdoor rug. I love the texture it provides while being neutral and calming all at the same time. To me, a outdoor rug is a perfect way to add coziness to outdoor spaces that can sometimes seem less than cozy.
3. This industrial light fixture would be the perfect contrast to our red brick house and new pavers! I can’t resist a fun light fixture, thanks HDC!
4. This little side table is perfect to add color, texture and a little bit of fun!
5. Crisp white is always my go-to accessory color and this bowl is the perfect ticket. I love its clean, fresh look. I’m envisioning some succulents in this bad boy or maybe an outdoor snack? Either way, it’s a keeper!
6. Outdoor clocks… I’m obsessed. I’m not exactly sure why, but you can bet that I will find me a clock to add to the new patio.
7. A tray is essential to add function and fashion to any living space. This one is adorable, but I hope to find (or DIY) one that can add a bit of meaningful personality to our new space!
8. HDC does it again with this calming, geometric pillow. I love that this pillow complements the furniture, while also adding a pop of pattern. You can definitely expect lots of pillows on our patio.
9. Italian Lights will be a must, but may not be added until next year. We plan to build a pergola and dress that baby up with strands of these fabulous lights.
So here ya have it, the break down of my patio inspiration! I’m so excited to kick off my landscaping/patio series by partnering up with Home Decorators Collection! HDC is spot on with my patio vision, but has far more than just outdoor essentials to choose from. You can check out their outdoor line at your local HomeDepot, or peek at everything else amazing on their site
Stay tuned as we take you on our crazy journey of remodeling our backyard to create an extension of our little lodge.  In the meantime, bring on the dirt…

Design Inspiration: Pure Salon & Spa

We’re often asked where we get all of our inspiration and ideas for our DIY projects and home style. Of course Pinterest, magazines, and catalogs all play a major role in our decor ideas…but the truth is we find inspiration EVERYWHERE!

Pure Salon & Spa

Our latest trip to the salon is the perfect example of finding inspiration in unexpected places.

As blondes we are not big fans of getting our “hair did.” It’s quite the process (foils & foils) and takes a lot of time (like 2-3 hours….seriously you non-hair colorers are sooo lucky) But when your roots are so bad that you literally have the “ombre effect” going on, you know it is time to do some hair damage control.

Now that the rookies have been reunited (more on that here) we decided to make the long beauty process a little more fun and get our hair done together.

Bridget getting beautified

We visited our friend’s new salon not knowing what decor inspiration awaited us…

Of course we chatted all things blog, wedding, and caught up with our friend & hair stylist Casey. But we also spent much of our time oohing and aahing at all of the creative details in Casey’s salon.

Let’s take a peek at her oh-so-comfy and welcoming salon…

This coffee table is insanely gorgeous.
Pure Salon Mannequin
The entire space is mostly neutral, with touches of antique, and a dash of glam. The perfect recipe if you ask us!

Casey told us that most of the items were found at flea markets, and repurposed for the salon. That was music to our ears.

Pure Salon Chalk Board

Casey & her Aunt also DIYed many of those flea market finds. This old dresser was brought to life again with some TLC and paint.

Drop cloth accent wall

By far our favorite idea in the salon was this drop cloth accent wall. It’s featured on one wall of the massage room and serves a double duty…1. to muffle noise from the salon, so guests can truly relax. 2. to add some creativity and life to an otherwise white wall. #genius.

They simply made it using 4 drop cloths (incredibly inexpensive at any home store) and a staple gun. The texture and ruffled look makes it pop right off the wall and it certainly adds dimension and interest to the small space.

Antique chandelier

We left the salon that day grinning ear to ear. Not only was our hair looking big, blonde, and beautiful…but we had some fab new ideas to incorporate into our own spaces.

Wedding Week Kickoff

You guys have known for awhile now that these 2 rookies have weddings on the way. (Read about Casey’s engagement here, and Bridget’s right here.)

Even though our impending nuptials are looming…we haven’t exactly gotten on the bridal bandwagon. It’s not that we’re not excited about our weddings, we’re just a bit overwhelmed.  Because when you write your own DIY blog, people have incredibly high expectations for your big day.  We’re afraid our guests will expect every single detail to be handmade, and a one-of-a-kind, never before seen idea.  Let’s just burst that bubble right now: Not.gonna.happen.

However, we do want some of our wedding details to be personalized and DIY’ed. So to burn a fire under us, we dreamed up the idea of creating a WEDDING WEEK!
Wedding Week

When we saw that Christina and Alysia were also newly engaged, we knew we had to ask these two lovely bloggers to join our big week o’ weddings.

The purpose of this week? To get some wedding ideas flowing, and create a DIY project for our big days!

Oh and to keep things “interesting” we decided to go with the four must-haves for any wedding…

Old. New. Borrowed. Blue.

We split up the words between the four bloggers, and each used one as a general theme for our project.

Our first project will be on the blog tomorrow, so be sure to tune in. In the meantime, you can check out Christina & Alysia’s blogs to get to know these brides-to-be.

Giuliana & Bill’s Home Style…For Less

One of my guilty pleasures is watching episodes of Giuliana & Bill on the Style Network. I’m pretty much obsessed with this power couple, and just can’t seem to get enough of them! Their love for one another seems genuine, and both their personal and home style is impeccable. Also, Bill has such a love for Chicago and even went to our high school! (Go Eagles!)

The duo is currently living in a fab home in L.A. and whenever I watch the show, I gawk at their gorgeous home.

Let’s take a little look at their pad…

Isn’t it gorgeous? Lonni Paul designed it and somehow she managed to make the entire house feel luxurious, but not stuffy or pretentious. I also love how the color palette is soft and neutral, but not too harsh and white.
This house tour inspired me to find this look…for less.

Mirror Gallery Wall Inspiration

I have a love affair with mirrors.
No, no…not because I like looking in mirrors. There’s no “who’s the fairest of them all?” going on in this household.
I love mirrors because they can reflect light and really transform the feel of a room.  They’re shiny, pretty, and they instantly add a bit of sparkle and glam to a space.
If you follow us on Pinterest, then you may have noticed that lately I’ve been a mad woman pinning up a storm! Many of those pins are of gorgeous gallery walls, all featuring (you guessed it!) MIRRORS!
Cue the eye candy…
Apartment Therapy Mirror Gallery Wall

Orange Mirror Gallery Wall
Mirrors above mantel
Assorted hanging mirrors
Mirrors up staircase
Sunburst Mirrors over bed
Are these not all seriously gorgeous!? The varying mirror shapes, colors, textures, and arrangements make each room one of a kind!
All of this eye candy got me thinking, can I have my own mirror gallery wall?
After strolling around our loft, I found a wall that was begging for a new look.
Mirror gallery wall here
This wall in our master bedroom has always been a hodge-podge of random. It never really had a very cohesive look.  But it’s a large space and could certainly use some glam.
Wall behind television
The glossy green mirror on the left (remember it was an $8 score?) could potentially stay. But for now I’ll take it down and start with a blank canvas. On the right is one of our favorite songs “God Gave Me You” in a black frame. That little guy will certainly find a new home in our place somewhere.
Now that I have some inspiration and a space to work with, I need some mirrors!
I’ve started my collection…
$7 Mirrors goodwill finds
These were found at Goodwill for $7 total! I’m contemplating spray painting one or both (white? silver? keep them as is?)
This trio of circles was found on clearance at Target for only 13 buckaroos! The round shape will certainly make arranging this gallery wall a whole lotta fun!
As you can see, this project is definitely a work in progress. I want to slowly accumulate some really great mirrors from thrift stores, antique shops, and big box stores. Right now, I’m taking all mirrors into consideration…all shapes, sizes, & colors. I’m leaning towards silvers & whites..but we will see what happens!
black dresser and television
For now, I’ll just stare at my wall of randomness and look forward to my future mirror gallery wall!
