Jan’s Coastal Bedroom Refresh

[Disclaimer: This post is brought to you by Walmart. Thanks for supporting the brands that support this blog]

Last week, I shared some fun,ย budget-friendly nightstand styling ideas with you and they gave me allllll the beachy vibes. Today, I’m back to show you the quick updates we made to give my mom a coastal bedroom refresh! But let me give you a little reminder of what this guest room space looked like before…Jan's guest room

You can read more about this space from this post, but really my mom and I created a feminine oasis with some random accessories we found from HomeGoods. Finn and I have been living in this room since the beginning of June and I ended up swapping out her window treatments for some blackout bamboo ones (it was so bright in here and we’re divas and can’t sleep unless it’s pitch black). That prompted us to want to refresh more of this bedroom space.

When Walmart reached out to ask if I wanted to highlight their new coastal collection, I knew my mom would be on board to incorporate some of the pieces into her guest bedroom. All of the prices are fantastic and we ended up scooping up a lot of new stuff to try (knowing that we could use the free shipping and free returns since our order was over $35!). Here’s a look at her new coastal bedroom with just a few small tweaks…

Creating a coastal bedroom with blue accessories and beachy art

We really only swapped out a few items in this room and it has a completely different feel! I think Finn feels a bit more at home in here since we toned down the floral a bit. Plus, he’s a huge beach fan and now wants all of our spaces to have that coastal vibe.

Large-Scale Affordable ArtBeachy art over the bed

Let’s start with the large-scale art over the bed. It’s tough to find prints that are large enough to put over a queen bed (remember scale is so important!) or art that isn’t $500+. We went with the 24×36 size and it came framed for $131! Framed art that big for that price? Yes, please!

Beachy art over the bed

While it’s a print of a beach, I like that it isn’t all blues and greens from the water. Instead, it actually has lots of warm tones with the sand and that prevents this room from feeling too cool. Plus, it allowed me to use a blue pillow on the bed. Which brings me to…

Updated Pillows & ThrowChoosing new pillows for a bed to give off beachy and coastal vibes

These 3 pillows cost me $25…TOTAL! The two linen colored ones come in a 2-pack for $12 and the blue lumbar is $13. Spending so little on a new pillow look made my mom feel better about doing a little refresh! Coastal pillow look from WalmartAnd it’s crazy how just swapping out the pillows can transform a space. I think she is now tempted to update her couch pillows to bring in some new colors.

I know I said that the art was my favorite part of this refresh, but I may have lied because I might steal this throw and bring it to our new house (Sorry, Jan!). While the description says it’s gray and white striped, it’s definitely a bit more taupe and cream (which is perfect for the beachy look). It has a nubby texture and adds so much to the white bedding. Everyone loves a tassel too!

Large Textured BasketBig basket for laundry

The last new piece is this huuuuuuge textured basket that can hold 6+ fluffy towels! I am a huge fan of baskets and use them in just about every single room. We needed a new basket in here for transporting laundry to the washer and dryer and back and this one gets the job done.

When we officially move out, my mom plans to use it in her living room to hold all of her extra blankets. I always recommend using a large basket in the living room for cozy couch blankets (especially ones that are super warm but might not look the best displayed on your couch. Remember this blog post?).ย  This is a great quality basket for the price and it goes with the new coastal bedroom look.

A Refreshed LookCoastal bedroom retreat with simple home decor upgrades

My mom is thrilled with her new guest bedroom look. It took me about five minutes to put it all together and I now smile every time I walk in this room. Sometimes you don’t need to completely overhaul a space to give it new life. Instead, a few new accessories can transform the way a room makes you feel!

This coastal bedroom is making it really difficult for me to want to leave Hotel Jan! I may have to incorporate some of these new pieces (definitely that throw!) into our new house so I feel at home right away.
