In yesterday’s 1 item, 3 ways post we showed you three ways you could utilize HomeGoods wrapping paper in your home. I gave you a peek at how I dressed up our boring drawers using the wrapping paper as a pop of color on the sides.
Today I’m going to show you just how easy this DIY really is…seriously anyone can do this!
Here’s the blah before picture. The drawers are just plain wood, and they were begging for a little bit of fun! I knew that I could add some color and pattern for just a couple bucks.
Mod podge is the main supply for this project. I used this matte one (just because I had it on hand), but I’m sure just about any mod podge will do.
Simply take all of the drawers out of the dresser. Then grab your measuring tape and measure the exposed wood area. Once you have your measurements, cut out a strip of wrapping paper to fit each side of the dresser.
Next, paint on a thin layer of mod podge over the entire wood surface. Before the glue dries, carefully smooth down the piece of wrapping paper on top.
Once it’s on and to your liking, seal the top with another coat of the glue.
Here’s the most vital step…use a credit card to smooth out any air bubbles underneath the wrapping paper. This will ensure a smooth, crease-free finish on the sides of your dresser.
Wrapping Paper Drawers
And you’re done. Okay, well not done..you still probably have more drawers and sides to do! But seriously how easy is that? Measure, cut, glue, smooth down, repeat!
Now take a look at the fun after pictures…
Don’t you just love the marbled gray and yellow paper? I love how the gray in the pattern matches the silver hardware on the drawer fronts.
Now I get a nice colorful surprise every time I pull open one of these drawers!
This project is so darn easy and only costs you a couple bucks. It’s great if you have some leftover wrapping paper that you need to use up. If you want to get really crazy, you could even use a different wrapping paper on each drawer for a fun, colorful look. How cute would that be in a playroom or kid’s bedroom? Love.
I think it especially works because the dresser is tucked into the corner of the office, so you can’t help but see the flash of color when you open the drawer.
This dresser is looking a heck of a lot more personal since we brought it home from Ikea. Tune in on Thursday to read how I jazzed up those drawer fronts to create an industrial yet glamorous twist on a campaign dresser. You don’t want to miss this inexpensive and personalized project!
