Let’s skip the lovey, dovey intro and get right to the good stuff… the DIY dirt. My “borrowed” Wedding DIY is…

…a vintage card box. My wedding is going to have a vintage, Victorian feel (I think) and this vintage suitcase turned card box will fit the bill perfectly (I hope). You can tell I really have a handle on this bride stuff… huh?

 

I made it for under $20 (woo woo) and didn’t even have to sew. (I’m sure I have your attention now). And if you’re not a bride-to-be… this card box could be a cute addition to a birthday party, retirement party, or really just any excuse to entertain. Throw your cards, advice, gifts, heck…even your keys in it if you’ve been over-served, and call it a party. This catch-all is creative, cheap and functional… can’t ask for much more than that, right?

I borrowed this American Tourister, but I’ve seen these same little ticket items at garage sales, thrift shops, Goodwills and even flea markets. So yes, this is my “borrowed” but I’m sure you can skip the borrowed and head straight to the bought pretty easily.

A real beauty right?

With permission, I snipped off the straps inside the suitcase. Not for any real reason, I just wasn’t digging ’em.

Then I hit up Hobby Lobby (with my 40% off coupon) and stocked up! I bought the flags (pre-sewn… holla), embellishments, and letters- all for under $15. I already had the jute and clothes pins. I feel kind of guilty not DIY-ing the banner, but to be honest with wedding DIY in full swing, I had no choice but to prioritize. The sewing machine just didn’t make the cut.  Maybe next time?

I laid out my rough draft to ensure I didn’t slip up with a misspelling or some awkward spacing on each banner. You laugh? I wouldn’t put that DIY fail past me.

Just like the directions said, I ironed on each letter…

…then added the jute across the banner, hot glued the embellishments randomly to each flag, and….

added some pearls to tie in that vintage-Victorian thing I think I’m going for. About a half hour later, I was done!!

All she is missing is some cards, and maybe a plane ticket?
