Christmas Cut-Out Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 2 3/4 cups cake flour *must be cake flour!
  • 2 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs beaten well
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • food coloring red and green
  • extra flour for rolling
  • egg whites
  • sprinkles
  • all-purpose flour for rolling

Method
 

  1. Set the oven to 350 degrees
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar: In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the butter and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and flavoring: Mix in the beaten eggs on low speed, then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Add color: Add food coloring to make red or green dough. Mix until evenly tinted.
  6. Combine the dry and wet ingredients: Add the flour mixture and mix on low speed until a soft sugar cookie dough forms.
  7. Chill for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Roll 1/4 inch thick on a well-floured board.
  9. Cut with cookie cutters.
  10. Bake on a greased baking sheet at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
  11. When cool, use a brush to paint on egg whites and top with sprinkles.
