Well, we’ve made it to the final room reveal in my mom’s condo. To say her home is beautiful would be an understatement. Every time I come over here I feel like I’m in a model home. She keeps it looking impeccable and I instantly feel calm and at ease every time I walk in the door. This condo is a different layout from most traditional Chicago condos. Instead of being long and narrow it’s very wide and has a large dining and family room directly off the kitchen. Because of this, we knew we really wanted all of these rooms to flow well together. My mom brought the dining room table from her suburban home, and while it was a beautiful and well-made table, the style didn’t flow well with the rest of the room. Once we finished her kitchen and family room space, the dining room setup stuck out like a sore thumb. We quickly sold her table and chairs on Craigslist and found replacements that match the style of the other rooms. Here’s her new farmhouse dining room.
Farmhouse Dining Room
The first thing we needed to find was the perfect table. My mom enjoys cooking and usually has our family over for the holidays. Because of this, we needed a large table to hold all of her kids and grandkids. This table comfortably seats 8 and it’s incredibly durable (great for those rambunctious grandkids!).We found the farmhouse dining table and bench at a store in Chicago called The Painted Lady (this table and this bench from Pottery Barn look almost identical!) The entire store is just delightful and when you walk in you feel like you’re in an episode of Fixer Upper. It’s very warm, rustic, and farmhouse chic. Perfect for my mom. In fact, we even got her gold coffee table and the painting over her bed from this cute little shop. If you’re a Chicagoan (or visiting), definitely give this small store a visit.Once we had the dining table and bench, we had to figure out the rest of the chairs. My mom knew she wanted upholstered chairs on the ends, but didn’t want them on the other side of the table (to keep a majority of the table kid-friendly).
Finding the Perfect Chairs
She actually found the 2 upholstered chairs from Art Van Furniture. Who knew?! She ended up getting 3 chairs that were floor samples for $300 total. A steal if you ask me.My mom ended up putting the third chair in her master bedroom as a spot to sit and put her shoes on when getting ready in the morning. Doesn’t it look perfect in here next to her gorgeous wall of built-ins? Absolute perfection.
The remaining 3 chairs are from Pottery Barn. I like the off-white color and subtle rustic look (although it looks like the white color is no longer available online. boo!). They are perfect for the little ones because they’re easily wipeable (& surprisingly comfortable!).
Accessorizing the Farmhouse Dining Room
I added a few accessories to the middle of the table that I picked up from HomeGoods. The gold bowl holds lots of fruit and it brings in a hint of the glam elements that are found in the rest of the family room space. The vase and branches bring some much-needed height to this area. I found the vase at HomeGoods and added some branches from Michaels. She can swap them out for seasonal branches throughout the year, so it will be a nice spot to play around with.I absolutely love her farmhouse dining room. Having this much space to eat in the city is quite the treat and I’m so excited for our first big holiday as a family in this space. This is the LAST space we had to decorate in her condo and I’m sad our time spent styling this gorgeous home is coming to an end. Although I have a feeling she may want to do her bathrooms at some point, which would be sooooo fun! Stay tuned…

A huge thank you to my mom for letting me take over her space and reveal it for all of the internet to see. I’ve gotta say, she is the perfect “client.” She let me do whatever the heck I wanted and whenever I gave her “homework” (like to pick up a fresh plant or find a small accessory to go here or there), she got it done in a day! I wish there was more for us to do in her place because it was so much fun to do some mother-daughter decorating.
