As regular readers know, we’re not exactly shopaholics. You certainly won’t find us hanging out at the mall or lining up on Black Friday to find the best deals. Clothing just isn’t really our thing, as evidenced by our fashion fails from this post.

Buuuuut, shopping for our homes is a completely different story, as in if there was a Black Friday Equivalent for home decor… we’d be there! We’re obsessed with HomeGoods, Target, and pretty much any other home decor store. And mixed with these home decor retailers, we equally love our fair share of garage sales, antique shops, and thrift stores. Yes, please…we are totally down for those kinds of shopping escapades anddddd those discounted price tags.

Estate sales & thrifting adventures are shopping sprees we just can’t live without. I mean who doesn’t love the hunt for the perfect treasure? To us, estate sales are the best sales because you’ll find a wide variety of items that have been collected over a lifetime, and you can often find items you just don’t find in stores these days. Plus, the adventure of going sale to sale with our hubbies (or each other) throughout a weekend is always part of the fun.

We’ve been fortunate to find some really cool items at estate sales in our area, specifically because we’ve followed our own advice from this post. Here are some of our favorite goodies…

Wicker Basket: Found in the basement of a grand St. Louis home for only $7. It now holds all of our wrapping paper and gifting essentials.

Bar Cart Essentials: The two large decanters on the top shelf were estate sale scores. The total for both was a whopping $10!
Vases: This fish bottle doubles as one of my favorite vases to date. It was $1 at a local estate sale, & this quirky piece is always my “go-to” for single flowers. Globes: Globes can be expensive when you’re buying them at antique shops or even online. This $5 treasure I found at a suburban estate sale… on my birthday! #bestgiftever

Shutter Boards & Xmas Decor: I rummaged through the garage of a local estate sale to bring this shutter board home for $5. With a little DIY attention, this extra long shutter was fashionable and functional throughout the season by holding all of our festive snail mail. Christmas decor in general is good to grab at estate sales!

As much as we love estate sales, there are definitely a few downsides of these secret treasures. If you want the best stuff, often times you have to wake up really early to wait in line for a ticket to enter the estate. We’re morning girls (who love our coffee), but sometimes a 5:00am wake-up call is just not in the cards on a Saturday morning. Plus, the estate sale world can be hard to navigate and sometimes very crowded and competitive, which is not our thing. And if you don’t have quite a bit of free time on the weekends to devote to this adventure, you may miss out on some potential new treasures! But why should early mornings or a lack of free time restrict us from shopping at some of our favorite decor hot spots?!
