Reader OMG! – Marieza’s Mountain Holiday Home

Reader OMG! is a series showcasing home tours from my favorite peopleโ€ฆThe DIY Playbook readers! Every month or so, I highlight the home of someone with some serious design style. I hope that these swoon-worthy spaces will make you say โ€œOMGโ€โ€ฆhence the name! It also gives me a chance to feature home styles outside of my own, so you can take away some fresh ideas for your space.

I am over the moon because this is the first holiday home tour I’ve featured from a reader. I think it’s so special to see how other people decorate for the holidays and I’m in love with Marieza’s gorgeous space. As you’ll soon see, her stunning home is tucked into the mountains of Calgary and it’s an idyllic spot to get into the holiday spirit.

Marieza is also a DIY’er and blogs over at Home With Marieza. She has done so many projects to transform their builder-grade home into something special for their family of four. They moved from South Africa five years ago and just became Canadian citizens last week! CONGRATS! When they purchased their home, everything was brown or beige and Marieza has spent so much time painting just about everything (She used Behr “Ultra Pure White” on the trim and Behr “Classic Silver” on the walls.)

Let’s take a peek at her cozy mountain holiday home…

Well, isn’t this a joyful welcome into their mountain holiday home?! I adore the emerald green color scheme that invites you into their space. The stair rails were originally a dark-stained wood and Marieza brightened things up with some paint. She also added the cute board and batten area to act as a drop zone. Here’s what Marieza said about decorating this space…

Decorating the stairs for the holidays is one of my favorite things to do! Growing up in South Africa, holiday decorations consist of putting up a tree and nothing more. Even then I dreamt of decorating a home to look like a Hallmark movie. Now that we basically live inside a snow globe, I pull out all the stops!

Reading her words made me light up inside. How special to create a home that makes you feel so good during the holiday season.

The living room has a different color scheme with red, gold, and a dash of blue. Her tree is stunning and this looks like the perfect spot to sit on the couch, stare at the twinkly lights, and stay warm by the fire. Marieza’s built-ins have such a great mix of regular everyday decor, combined with a few holiday accessories.

The Kitchen & Dining Areas

Before you even gaze at this space, I want you to take a look out the windows. It’s the perfect snowy winter scene and almost looks like it’s Photoshopped in! She truly does live in a snow globe!

Marieza did a lot of DIY action in this space, staining the dining table, painting the cabinets (Sherwin Williams “Halcyon Green”) and the vintage hutch. For the holidays, she added lots of special touches and I especially love the open shelving with the pretty dishware, festive Santa mugs, and gingerbread ornaments hanging from the pegs. I don’t usually do too much holiday decorating in the kitchen, but Marieza’s space has inspired me to add more seasonal flair!
