31 Days of Color: Refreshed Mason Jar Organizer
It’s officially spring & it’s safe to say we have dreams of fresh flowers, lush backyards, and warm days on our mind. But here in Chicago, those dreams are definitely not a reality. The temps are still fairly brisk (in fact it’s supposed to SNOW tonight?!), so our patios will be neglected for a little while longer. Sigh.
But just because it’s chilly outside, doesn’t mean we can’t bring a bit of spring INSIDE! The best way to do just that? COLOR!
As brand ambassadors for Valspar, we’ll be tackling lots of fun painting projects throughout the course of 2016. And this month’s project is all about color…31 days of it to be exact!
Throughout all of March, Ace Hardware is celebrating 31 days of color at The Paint Studio. They even have a big sweepstakes where you can enter for a chance to win a $10,000 paint makeover and daily gift cards. So if you’re in need of a paint makeover for your house…go ahead and enter! [Here are the official rules for the contest]
Today’s color is “Marmalade Magic“…a pretty coral with a hint of orange. We were excited about this color because it’s totally outside the norm for us (you guys know we can’t get enough gray, navy, blue, and white in our homes!), so we figured this vibrant hue would be fun to play around with!
We decided to give our most popular project a refresh and very colorful upgrade for the season.
DIY Colorful Mason Jar Organizer
Our mason jar organizer now has a brighter, bolder look and it’s the perfect spot to display fresh spring blooms. (Or build your own herb garden by adding herbs into these mason jars instead of flowers!).
Here’s how we revamped our most favorite DIY.
We took a scrap piece of wood and gave it a coat of fresh white paint.
After letting it dry overnight, we used painter’s tape to section off half of the wood on a diagonal (we didn’t measure, just eye-balled it by running the painter’s tape from corner to corner). Then we gave it a couple of coats of Valspar Optimus in Marmalade Magic for that bright and bold look. After the first coat, the color was already so vibrant and the paint really did create a smooth (& non-streaky!) finish on the wood board.
We love how the bold color pops against the white! So vibrant and spring-like.
With the board all painted and ready to go, we went ahead and installed the hose clamps and mason jars. If you want a complete step-by-step, be sure to check out this blog post (complete with a step-by-step video tutorial)
After a little muscle & some time with the power drill, our mason jar organizer was up on the wall and ready for some fresh blooms. We went with yellow flowers, but really any bright color could look amazing in these classic mason jars.
How amazing do these bright yellow flowers look next to the bright coral color? It really screams “SPRING!” to us.
We’re happy we were inspired to step outside of our blue/gray/white color palette because it really gave us a newfound love for color… especially now that it’s spring. Plus, with Valspar’s Color Guarantee it’s easy to try out a color, knowing that you can exchange it for free if you don’t love it.
Who knows, maybe we’ll be adding more vibrant hues all over our homes this season?!
