3 Ideas to Wear a Suede Skirt for Fall
When it comes to my wardrobe I’m pretty basic. I usually gravitate towards the same pieces over and over again…sweaters, jeans, flowy blouses, and lots of neutrals. But I recently saw a suede skirt online and I was instantly smitten.Skirts are not usually in my wheelhouse when it comes to fashion items. For me, they’re intimidating to style and I can never seem to get the whole tucked in top look just right. But when I saw this skirt, I had to have it and I vowed that I would figure out foolproof ways to wear it for just about any occasion.
Favorite Suede Skirts
I picked this suede skirt up from Nordstrom, but it looks like it is selling out pretty fast. If you do happen to snag this one, it is definitely true to size and it meant to be worn at your natural waist. I went with a size 8 and it fits perfectly! This one is incredibly similar and comes in gray, brown, and tan. Here are some other suede skirts that I’m loving too…
Styling a Suede Skirt – 3 Ways
Which brings me to today’s post…styling my new suede skirt 3 different ways. This was actually a really fun challenge for me and Iย raided my entire closet looking for items to pair with this piece. Here’s what I came up with…
Weekend Wear
Skirt // Henley Top // Cardigan // Loafers // Bag // Eyeglasses
Let’s start with the most casual of the bunch…my weekend look. I feel like this is the perfect casual outfit for a Sunday brunch on a chilly morning.ย
On top, I went with my new maroon henley tee with a long cardigan over that. I’ve been wearing this henley a lot and it made me realize that I need to add a few more long-sleeved t-shirts to my rotation. They’re just so good for layering, especially in the fall.ย It’s been too hot to wear my leopard flats much this summer, but I’m so excited to bring them back into play this fall. They jazz up any ol’ outfit and they’re surprisingly comfortable. I’m so happy I purchased these last year and I know they’ll last me for seasons to come!ย
Finally, my everyday bag from Cuyana. I use this large tote every.single.day and it’s myย absolute favorite. I’m thinking about getting another one (maybe this zippered one in the color stone), because I had an unfortunate pen incident in the bottom of the bag (ughhhh) and I haven’t been able to get the inside perfectly clean again. Oh boy!
Family Dinner
Skirt // Blouse (similar) // OTK boots
I’ve always been a big fan of black and brown together. It’s a foolproof combo that always looks chic. When I first saw this suede skirt, I instantly pictured wearing it with a black turtleneck on top. I’m still on the hunt for a good lightweight turtleneck, but this black blouse works for now!
I picked up these boots at the end of the winter season from DSW and haven’t had a chance to wear them yet! I’m so excited because they’re so comfortable and (dare I say…) sexy! Because all of my family members now live in the city, we like to go out to new restaurants together pretty often. This pulled together look would be perfect for a family dinner. So easy to throw on and head out the door.
Date Night
Skirt // Camisoleย // Booties // Leopard Clutch (similar)
Finally, my favorite look of the bunch…this sexy date night ensemble. Finn and I have a date night about once a week and, now that I work from home, it’s usually the only time I ever get dressed up.ย If I’m showing a lot of leg (like with this skirt!), then I like to cover up more on top. I love this scalloped camisole from J.Crew with a lightweight blouse on top (this one is super old, so I don’t have a link.) I think a structured blazer would look amazing over a little camisole too.ย
Leopard goes with any outfit and this clutchย adds a nice pop of pattern to this primarily black and brown ensemble. I use this clutch for date night often because it’s fashionable, but it can still hold lots of stuff! I originally got this one from Ann Taylor, but this one is so very similar!
I love the peep-toe booties to bring it all together. A little edgier than just wearing a traditional black heel, and they’re great for the chilly season ahead.ย
I can’t wait to rock this look on a date night real soon.
This exercise was actually really good for me and it pushed me out of my comfort zone when it comes to my wardrobe. I think whenever I buy a new-to-me piece (like this suede skirt), before putting it away in my closet, I’ll come up with a few go-to outfits that use that particular item. That way I’m not intimidated to wear it and I already know what looks good with it.ย
So if you see me out and about this fall, I just might be wearing my new favorite suede skirt!
