White Nightstands in B’s Master Bedroom

Wow, it’s been FOREVER since I checked in with bedroom updates, mostly because there hasn’t been much progress. Right after Ben was born, we bought a mattress and moved out of the basement into the master bedroom. But outside of buying the mattress to make this room more functional, we didn’t make many more updates.

Our Master Bedroom – Then

Ben slept in our room for the first two months and when he moved out, (we shed a few tears) and then vowed to get our act together. Waking up to a half-empty, very disorganized room with cords everywhere (chargers, baby monitors, humidifier) was a bit depressing. The messy room was stressing me. And although we had a million things on our to-do list and our focus has been mostly on the landscaping, this room was screaming for some TLC.

Our Master Bedroom – Nowlight, bright master bedroom with white nightstands

Fast forward a bit and this is how our room currently looks. We still have a lot of work to do (mostly on the areas you don’t see… including the closet), but I’m loving the progress!white nightstands from serena & lily

The item that took the longest to find were the nightstands. Before I spotted these white nightstands at the new Serena & Lily store in Chicago, I could not seem to find ones that I loved. Or I would find something I liked and then find out that they were sold out. Such a bummer!

New White Nightstands

Before finding “the ones”, I hmm-ed and haw-ed on the color for awhile and wasn’t sure if I should go with wood tones, white or black. I’m really glad I chose white nightstands because it makes the room immediately feel more light and airy. The size is also perfect for our space, and I love that these white nightstands offer some secret storage in the middle drawer. The drawer is the perfect size to hold what you need, but not let your nightstands become a holding ground for unnecessary crap. I hate that!

Styling the White Nightstandsstyling white nightstands with peonies

This was the first surface we’ve had in our room, so I was extra excited to “style” it. Because I’m not sure what the rest of the room will look like, I stuck with items we had around our house. I even brought up the old Target lamps from downstairs (that we used to have in our old master bedroom) and I’m really liking the look. But I’m also toying with the idea of hanging these sconces above the nightstands so I have a bit more room on the top of the nightstands. The price can’t be beat, so if I do take the plunge, I’ll probably spray paint them.

What do you guys think? And if you say yes, do it! Go black?ย Stick with brass? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Slow & Steady?

white, neutral bedroom with serena and lily nightstandsGetting my room together has taken the longest and seems to be the hardest room to decorate in the house so far! I always wonder why that is…ย I feel like my room should be the easiest. I think it’s because I’m a bit indecisive and don’t want to make the wrong move, especially since I want the room to really feel like our style.

So my plan is to continue to move slow and steady and wait for items that I’m obsessed with like I did with these white nightstands.

Hopefully, if I’m patient and only fill the room with items I absolutely love, I’ll build a room that I love and won’t experience design regret anytime soon. But wow, who knew it would take this long?! I guess we’ve been kinda busy since moving in last fall.

Maybe once the landscaping is done and I have more time to devote to this room, the process will go quicker. Fingers crossed! And in the meantime, I’d love to hear your thoughts on sconces. Yes? No? Black? Brass? HELP a sister out!
