Now that Labor Day has come and gone (we hope your holiday weekend was a good one!), we are both so eager to dive into all things fall. It’s by far our favorite season, because we love all the coziness of this time of year.

Craft Pumpkin Ideas Over the Years

Every year, we’ve worked with Michaels Stores to debut a pumpkin craft and it’s always so fun to challenge ourselves to think outside the box. Here are some past pumpkins we’ve done around here…

We always try to keep our pumpkin craft simple, so people like us (who don’t have a lot of natural artistic ability) can recreate it. This year’s idea might just be the easiest one yet…

Letterboard Pumpkin

We are absolutely obsessed with the letterboards in our homes and find ourselves changing out the quotes on a regular basis. We also enjoy sharing inspiring/funny/witty letterboards on our Instagram page (you can see them all if you follow #lettersbydiyplaybook) and figured it would be fun to translate this idea to a pumpkin!

How to Make a Letterboard Pumpkin

You only need a craft pumpkin from Michaels (we went with white), stickers, and spray paint for this project. Shop the whole Michaels pumpkin assortment here!

We decided to go with the quote “Trick or Treat Yo’Self”, but were also considering “Witch, Please!” and “Creep it Real.” Gotta love a good play on words. Ha! 

Be sure to press the stickers onto the pumpkin really well, so the spray paint doesn’t creep under there (pun intended). Once you have it all good to go (& straight…which is the toughest part!), you can give it 1-2 coats of spray paint. Keep the coats light so you don’t get any drips. We went with matte black for a spooky & classic look, but you can do any color you want!

After it dries, peel off the letters and you have yourself a cute letterboard pumpkin that will last you for many Halloweens to come! While it’s still a little too early for either of us to add pumpkins to our front porch, we love the idea of putting cute quotes like these on your fall porch for trick or treaters to see! It could also be fun to put your last name of address numbers on them if you do plan to add it to your front porch. Or you can use it as interior decor on your shelves to celebrate the autumn season and upcoming holiday. 

Every year we’re certain that we can’t possibly come up with another way to decorate a craft pumpkin, but we somehow make it happen and enjoy the challenge along the way! And we always love a craft project that is easy, only takes a few minutes, and needs minimal supplies. That’s our kind of crafting!
