The Mudroom: Painting White Brick and Black Doors

[Disclaimer: We partnered with Sherwin-Williams on this post however, all opinions and photography are our own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support this blog!]

Yesterday I shared the backstory behind the mudroom and my design inspiration forย this space. But you guys… today I seriously can’t wait to show you how much different this space looks now that the brick has been painted. This transformation has been my favorite project so far and the room is still far from complete!

Painted Brick

Ironically enough, the brick was already painted before we started this makeover. One of the previous owners painted the brick an orangeyย color and the ceiling a beige color. Neither colors were my style and neither was doing anything to help this space appear as big as it is in real life. Enter my design inspiration and some serious need for bright white paint.

Can you even believe this is the same space?! I just can’t even. To say I’m obsessed with the white is quite the understatement.

Sherwin-Williams: Extra White

I picked out Sherwin-Williams Extra White (A100 Exterior Paint), the name itself sold me.ย Then my amazing dad (who is a professional painter by trade) primed and sprayed the brick and the ceiling using the Extra White. Because it was exterior paint with a latex base, I made sure to be out of the house when the painting happened.
You guys can probably imagine how many times I texted him to “send me pics!!” or “how’s it going?! Any pics yet?”. Poor guy!
When I came home for the big reveal, I was immediately in love with the pop of extra white in the room. It lived up toย itsย name for sure! The color was perfect.

The mudroom felt bigger, lighter, and the ceilings seemed so much higher with the new color (taking down the huge lantern helped too).

Sherwin-Williams: Tricorn Black Emerald

But the best part is that this gorgeous paint transformation didn’t stop there! Using Sherwin-Williams Tricorn Black Emerald (Satin), Big Mike painted all of the (many!) doors in here too.

It doesn’t even seem like the same space!! The black and white contrast is honestly better than I even expected. The floors aren’t even in and the room feels 1,000% more me. It’s so clean, fresh and bright.

The Progress Doesn’t Stop!

The only bad thing about this entire process is that once the paint was done, I wanted to start decorating immediately, but we still have to finish the floors. We finally decided on the perfect tile, which was harder than I expected because of the unexpected challenges that came with the currentย flooringย situation.

But the great news is that the tile team has been busy working away and I should have an update for you guys next week!

But before you go, one last look at this dramatic transformation. Who knew a few gallons of paint could be such a game changer?!
