A Few New Pieces for Our Summer Wardrobes

Our summer wardrobes recently got a few new additions and we’re excited to share our finds with you today. We both hit up some of the sales during Memorial Day weekend (did you do any sale shopping?) and left with some good staples to round out our summer wardrobes.

Adding lacy white shorts to our summer wardrobes

Sometimes it’s not about buying all.the.things. Instead, it’s about buying the right pieces that you can wear multiple ways all season long. We’re both trying to be better about shopping with intention and are only bringing items into our closets that…

  1. We absolutely love
  2. We actually need
  3. Are quality pieces that will last
  4. Are versatile and will go with other items in our closet

If an item doesn’t hit all 4 of those checkpoints, we do our best to keep on walking! If an item does pass the test, then you know we love it. So here’s what made the cut for each of us…

Summer Wardrobes – New Additions

Bridget & I have chatted about it before in this post, but we both try our best to play up our assets (while concealing our not-so-favorite parts of our bodies). For me, I like showing off my legs because they’re pretty toned (thanks to my mom & grandma’s amazing genes!).

Update your summer wardrobe with lacy white shorts

So in the summertime, I’m all about the shorts! When keeping it casual, I often go for jean shorts or white jean shorts with sandals. But when I want to make things a tiny bit dressier, I always like to buy a “nice” pair of shorts.

Lacy White ShortsThese lace shorts from LOFT are so comfortable

I was so excited to find these shorts at LOFT during their Memorial Day weekend sale. I got a great deal on them, but honestly, I would have paid full price. The lace detailing instantly makes them aย bit dressier, so they can be dressed up for a summer night.Strolling around Chicago in the summer with shorts and a t-shirt

But….they have a drawstring, so they are alsoย sooooo incredibly comfortable. I’m thinking I’ll be wearing these for all of our summer date nights when we’re going out for nice dinners. Bring on all of the food.Lacy white shorts, wedges, and a cuyana bag

I also think you really can’t go wrong with white shorts. I own a few pairs and love wearing them when I get a little color on my legs. I’m still a little pastey from being inside working on the bathroom 24/7, but hopefully soon I’ll be heading to the pool for a little bit of sunshine!

Classic V-Neck Tee

The v-neck t-shirts from J.Crew are comfortable and affordable

On top, I kept it casual with a new v-neck t-shirt from J. Crew (I also picked up this striped tank!). I’ve never worn their tees before, but was pleasantly surprised to pick this one up. I got it for under $20 during their Memorial Day sale and I’m kicking myself for not buying it in other colors.White, navy, and tan are the perfect summer color combination for your wardrobe

The material is lightweight, but not too sheer or thin. I also always try to opt for a v-neck, because I think it’s more flattering on my frame. To show off the shorts, I knotted the tank, but I’ve also worn it tucked and untucked.Try knotting your t-shirt for a more casual look.

If you’re looking to add a few cute tees to your summer wardrobe, definitely stock up on these. The quality can’t be beat and navy, white, or black will go with everything!

Bridget’s Look

Like Casey said, we both try and buy pieces that flatter our body types. Since having Ben, I’m even more aware of these choices and really try to buy items that will make me feel comfortable and confident. That last thing I want in the summer is to be tugging on my clothes or feeling self-conscious that my “baby secrets” are peeking out here, there, or everywhere. No thank you.

updating summer wardrobe with versatile pieces

Like I chatted about in this post, I’m super thankful that my body gave me Baby Ben BUT that’s not to say I don’t have some extra wiggle and jiggle in the midsection, thighs, and arms that’s still sticking around. But I don’t think that means I still can’t feel comfortable, confident… and even cute until those few pounds are gone, right?

flowy blouse for the summer I love this shirt from American Eagle (yes, the same store we used to shop at in high school!) because it’s fun, yet still hides my baby secrets. Unfortunately, this top is sold out already but I found a super similar one here.

choosing versatile summer wardrobe staples

Yes, they definitely still have items that are designed for those teenage bodies (like their super slim crop tops! #eek). But I was surprised by some of the items that are on-trend, quality, and could work for our age group too.

black ripped jeans from nordstrom

I paired this flowy top with my (and Casey’s) go-to black pants and these super comfy block heels. These black pants are actually one of the items that you guys buy most often and I hope you all love them as much as we do. These are almost two years old and I wear them constantly. They have the perfect amount of stretch, they’re high-waisted, and they match with just about everything.

Long story short, if you haven’t checked out American Eagle or Abercrombie in the past decade… they may be worth a second look! I have this sweatshirt and LOVE it. Casey has scored some amazing jeans and we both love some of these casual dresses and rompers! And who knew American Eagle sells decor?! It’s geared more toward dorm/apartment living but wow… I had no idea! Apparently, I’ve been out of the game for a bit too long.
