Adding artwork to your house really helps make it feel more like home. Not only does it jazz up plain walls, but art gives you a chance to showcase your personality, your style, and it can tell guests more about you as a person. I’ll admit that I haven’t spent enough time adding art to our current home. I put a lot of pressure on myself to find pieces that really speak to me and I find that I have design paralysis until I find the exact thing that I want!

However, I’ve recently been adding online art around here and it’s an affordable way to incorporate beautiful art into your home without making a huge investment. There are so many amazing online art shops out there. Many allow you to download the print right to your computer and print it yourself! I love this option because not only does it make it easier on the wallet, but I feel less guilty changing art up as I find new pieces that inspire me.

I most recently added some online art to our basement bathroom and I was flooded with questions about my favorite art resources, frames, and just general questions on how to print art yourself. I figured I should dedicate an entire blog post to this very topic!

Printing Digital Downloads

When you buy a piece of digital art, you’ll usually get a link to download it directly to the computer. Often times, the seller will give you ratios and you print based on what you want to frame. For example, if I’m printing it as an 8×10 then I want to download the 4:5 ratio.

I use FedEx Office to print my digital art and I’ve always had great success. My at-home printer just isn’t good enough to print most of the art I buy and it uses so much ink, so I find that sending it to the professionals yields better results. I usually have my art printed on either white or cream cardstock, depending on the coloring of the artwork. Most 8×10 pieces are only about $1 to have printed.

Many online art shops also have the option of shipping you the piece at a higher price point than the digital download. I’ve done this a few times and have always had great success going that route too!

Adding Art to the Frame TV

As you may know, we have a Frame TV in our kitchen that is a television but looks like art when it’s turned off. You can read more about it here. I like to add different online art to our Frame TV, although I’m guilty of not changing it up very often. Maybe now that our kitchen will be new I’ll be more eager to change it up! Juniper Home has an entire blog post explaining, step-by-step, how to buy art from the Juniper Print Shop and upload it to your TV. I’ll definitely be doing that once our kitchen is complete!

Favorite Frames

As for frames, I don’t usually spend much on them. My go-to spot is Michaels. It’s where I find my favorite black frames with thick mattes. (These are the same as I used in my mom’s gallery wall.) I also love the thin light wood frames from Target. I have a few of those around the house, including in Rory’s nursery. And I most recently added this antique looking gold frame to the basement bathroom. It’s such a good price for this! Here are a few more that I like…
