Reader OMG! – Kerri’s Vancouver Home for Five

Reader OMG! is a series showcasing home tours from my favorite people…The DIY Playbook readers! Every month or so, I highlight the home of someone with some serious design style. I hope that these swoon-worthy spaces will make you say “OMG”…hence the name! It also gives me a chance to feature home styles outside of my own, so you can take away some fresh ideas for your space.

So far we’ve featured these amazing homes in the series…

Kerri’s Vancouver HomeKerri's Vancouver Home

  • Homeowners: Kerri & Steve with their 3 kids and several pets (2 dogs, 1 hamster, and 1 fish).
  • Location: North Vancouver, BC Canada
  • Year Built: 1987, but they purchased it in 2013 and did a renovation at that time.
  • Describe your Home Style: Modern Farmhouse
  • Favorite Spot in your House: Our living room. I moved my work station to a corner of this big bright room about a year ago and it is such a great spot to work during the day when the kids are at school. I spend as much time in this room as possible, reading, watching TV, and working.Kerri's Vancouver home

I am thrilled to feature Kerri’s gorgeous home here on the blog because she is a longtime blog reader. She has been around here for years and always takes time to write the most thoughtful comments. Bridget and I actually had the pleasure of meeting Kerri when she visited Chicago a few years ago and she was just as delightful in person! I’ve kept in contact with her through email since our meeting and with a little nudge, she actually started her own blog, Little Nest Design. She’s also a decorator and stylist in Vancouver, helping people spruce up their own homes!Styled bookshelves in a family-friendly home

While I’m sad I couldn’t fly to see Kerri’s gorgeous home in person, I had the very talented Tracey Ayton take these gorgeous photos and I was grinning from ear to ear when they popped up in my inbox. (Fun fact: Tracey’s home will be our April Reader OMG! feature!) Kerri’s home is hardworking for her family of five (and those pets) and you can tell it’s just a happy family home. Let’s take a look around…

As Kerri mentioned, this is her favorite room in the house and I can see why. I love how it’s a clean and relaxing living room, but it’s also hardworking for her everyday lifestyle. Her cute desk tucked into the corner looks like the ideal spot to sit down and get to work (and how about that Letterfolk sign…haha!).

The budget-friendly rug grounds this light and airy space and it works well with their IKEA sofa and nesting tables. I also learned about a new-to-me brand called Structube (a Canadian store) where Kerri has found some great deals (like her side table and arm chairs).

Everyone loves a white kitchen, but Kerri’s is anything but ordinary. That backsplash is such a showstopper, making a bold statement in this lovely kitchen. It looks like there is a ton of storage in this space, with cabinets on all sides…a must for a busy family! I especially adore the little nook with a shelf to hold recipe cards and pretty art. And I can just picture Kerri’s three kids sidling up to the peninsula on those comfy stools as they make dinner at night.

Kerri describes her style as modern farmhouse and I think her dining room epitomizes that phrase the best. She has a large farmhouse table but modernizes it with black chairs and accessories. For a rug, she went with this one from Ruggable. While I’ve personally never tried their rugs, I hear you can wash them in your washing machine! What a genius idea to choose this rug for a dining room that will inevitably see spills and stains. The two art pieces she chose from Juniper Print Shop look wonderful in here too.

How nice to have another spot for the family to gather! I especially love the homework station Kerri created behind the couch area. There is a personal work station for each of her kiddos where they can sit down after school to do homework or do some crafting on the weekends. Plus, look at all of that storage they have with the upper cabinets and lower drawers! It’s an ideal setup for any family.

Oh em gee…how about that gorgeous green accent wall behind the bed? I absolutely love the simple molding with the bold green color. So pretty, especially with the upholstered bed, burnt orange pillows, and quilt. But I would say that vintage dresser really steals my heart with the curves, the colors, the various wood tones. I’m swooning over here! I hope Kerri keeps that one forever!

I’ve actually never featured a kid’s room on the blog before (just nurseries) so this is extra exciting to show off two rooms for pre-teen girls. I mean, how freakin’ adorable are these bedrooms? The pretty colors, the whimsical accessories, the special art…it’s all so perfect for Kerri’s daughters who are 10 and 12-years-old. I especially love the DIY gold sharpie wall Kerri created on one of these walls. She actually completed it a few weeks before these photos and I think it’s a great addition to the room.

I saved my favorite spaces for last…the bathrooms. First, let’s discuss the master bathroom. I mean, how about that clawfoot tub?! I want to hop in and take a soak, immediately. And I love the large custom vanity they added in there. So functional, yet still so stylish. As for the kids’ bathroom…have you ever seen anything so cute? I adore the Kohler trough sink with the beadboard wall treatment.

Kerri's Vancouver Home Tour

A big thank you to Kerri for inviting us into her gorgeous home (and Tracey for the photos). Even though I didn’t have the pleasure of setting foot in her home, I can tell that a happy family lives here. It’s chock full of life and personality (just like Kerri). Be sure to head over to Kerri’s blog for more inspiration. And if we missed any sources, be sure to ask in the comments below.
