Playbook Inspired Projects No. 4
I am continuously impressed by the amazing DIY Playbook community. Often, Iโll get an email or a DM with a picture from a project that youโve re-created, and Iโm always so happy when you share your accomplishments with me! Itโs so cool to see you following my tutorials or gaining some motivation from a project youโve seen here on the blog. I decided to create this Playbook Inspired series, and every quarter I round up all of YOUR awesome projects. Get ready to be blown away by todayโs submissionsโฆ
Letโs See Your Amazing Projects!
Here are past posts from this series and they’re all chock full of DIY inspiration. I definitely recommend giving them a peek.
Below, I’ll first share the project the reader was inspired by, followed by their own words in italics.
Alyssa’s Chair Rail & Picture Frame Molding
- Inspired by Rory’s nursery

We loved the chair rail and picture frame molding in Rory’s nursery, and our home has a lot of big, blank, boring walls. So we added it to our front hallway with a twist – it’s bumped out slightly to hide a built-in, pocket-style baby gate for the stairs. It also gave us more of a ledge that will be fun to style!
Note from Casey: OMG…THAT BABY GATE?! How freakin’ cool is that? I am blown away by this one. Love how contemporary and hidden it is!
Lori’s Painted Bathroom Tile
- Inspired by my bathroom tile painting projects in our main bathroom, kids’ bathroom, and basement bathroom

In my former condo, I had a very 1980s bathroom. The white tile flooring always drove me crazy. I didnโt want to commit to a total retile – particularly because I felt if I was doing that, then Iโd want to gut the entire thing. I lived with it for years, never knowing how to update the flooring, untilโฆyou featured your experience stenciling your bathroom floors in your new home and I thought – thatโs it! You had the exact tile I did and I absolutely loved the evolution. I followed the same process down to the stencil and color and I was so happy with the outcome.
Emily’s Hallway Picture Frame Molding
- Inspired by Rory’s Nursery

I wanted to give our new construction hallway and powder bath a little character, and I was so inspired by the tutorial for picture frame molding. I researched SO many blogs and how-toโs, but Casey really had the best information.
Tara’s Craft Room Fauxdenza
- Inspired by my guest room fauxdenza & Bridget’s office

Casey, your DIY fauxdenza using IKEA cabinets has been a lifesaver in our offices now in two homes! We used your tutorial to create this white cabinet and wood top feature in our first home YEARS ago and successfully moved it into our current home office four years ago. It’s stood the test and now holds all of my (heavy!) scrapbooks and some vinyl craft supplies. You can see a little tour of my craft room/home office right here. Thanks for continuing to share all the details of these DIY projects, including helpful links and budget info.
Austin’s Office Built-Ins
- Inspired by my office built-ins

When we first saw our house (before buying) we knew immediately that the office had more potential, specifically for built-ins! We used sketch-up to design and leveraged some IKEA hacking for the base cabinets. We then custom-built bookshelves for the uppers and trimmed everything out for a true built-in feel. The final step was the walnut floating desk between the cabinets. Working from home in this new space is a dream!
Brie’s Updated Powder Room
- Inspired by my budget bathroom makeover

Inspired by your bathroom updates in 2021, I wanted to personalize the powder room on my main level. I loved the shelves in your kidsโ bathroom and ordered the same ones. I am so delighted to have my first full-room transformation – from the mood board dreaming stage to completion!
